Story Hangovers: The Parent Trap (and the Bad Parenting Trap)

Remember The Parent Trap? The identical twins who were separated after their parents broke up because they didn’t want to have to constantly switch them between two different schools? There's a simple solution to that . It's called homeschooling.  I might’ve only watched the movie because my mom made me, but it still made me think. How exactly is their “solution” better?  Honestly, wha t kind of parents break up twins and never tell them that the other exists? I don’t have a twin, but I know plenty of them and I’ve asked them about it and researched this topic since I’ve always wanted one.  Not only is it completely unfair to deny the girls their right to know their sister, but separating identical twins can cause physiological issues later in life. These include a feeling that they’re constantly missing a part of themselves and are alone in the world which can lead them to violently act out because they don’t know how to express these feelings, since the bond ...

Calm Down, People. RE: Bluey

Image
Apparently, a bunch of helicopter parents got upset over yet another tiny thing. In the episode of Bluey titled The Sign , when Bluey’s mother, Chili, brings Bluey, her five-year-old sister, Bingo, and their two cousins, four-year-old Muffin and two-year-old Socks with her in the family car, because there’s only room in the backseat for three, as the oldest, Bluey is allowed to ride in the front seat for the first time in her life. Which she was thrilled about.  I don’t blame you, Bluey. I remember my first time in the front. It was pretty exciting. Especially when you’re the oldest so you get to do it before your siblings. It made the sixteen month age gap between myself and my brother feel huge .  Parents got worried about their younger kids wanting to ride shotgun and/or out of the booster seat because Bluey got to, but there’s an easy solution to that.  Just tell them that Bluey is seven, which is the legal minimum age for kids to ride up front and she’s almost big ...

Why Straws Weird Me Out Sometimes

Image
I have a completely random, yet profoundly deep question. Does a straw have two separate holes or is the straw itself just one long hole with an opening on either end?  I’ve looked it up and no two search engines will give me the same answer.

The Busting Paradox

In Phineas and Ferb , I understand Candace wants to bust her brothers for their daily crazy inventions, but there’s one thing I don’t think she’s considered.  Since Candace has been bugging her parents to leave her in charge since she’s the oldest, if she does successfully expose them for something they did while she was supposed to be watching her brothers, wouldn’t that mean she’d get herself in trouble too?

Random Questions

Questions for March 19, 2026 Before lightbulbs were invented, what did people see over their heads when they had an idea? Would the economy still be a mess if whoever's idea money was hadn't thought of it and we still just bartered things?

Shout-Out to: My Second Cousin

Image
At my second cousin’s, that’s my grandma’s little sister’s daughter’s baby shower, I got permission to shout out Joanna and her husband Abbot about their new baby. I can’t tell you the name because they’re not revealing it until he’s born. Still, congratulations to Joanna and Abbot on their first!

Commissioner Gordon (How m0uch does he REALLY know?)

Image
I’ve noticed that Batman’s villains are at least given a realistic sentence for people who clearly have psychotic issues. A long stay in a mental hospital. I guess it’s nice to know they’re being taken care of, although I don’t think Catwoman entirely deserves a prison sentence. Selina Kyle is basically an overzealous animal advocate. Most of what she does is to help the less fortunate, since she was one of them in her early teens and wants to give back, which I fully agree with and support.  I honestly don’t get why anyone would want to raise kids in Gotham, it’s too scary!  N o wonder Commissioner Gordon is so determined to keep the city safe. True, Gotham needs a police commissioner, but someone else needs him more. His daughter, Barbara AKA Batgirl and later Oracle, needs her father. They rarely mention his wife, so I’m guessing his daughter is probably all he’s got in terms of family. See what I mean? It must run in the family. Even though the Commissioner is clearly...

Question

Image
Sorry for my long absence. I've been busy.  This time, however, I have a question. Not for anybody in particular, just for whoever reads this, I guess.  Last Wednesday was Rosa Parks' birthday, and it gave me an interesting thought.  Rosa Parks If it’s already been proven by pretty much every war ever fought that all people deserve the same basic rights, why did it take so long to grant, let alone accept them?   The entire reason we have wars is because people can’t find a way to agree, yet we still do it.   Look at this picture. I see nothing wrong with it. It’s just a group of kids having fun.    Seriously, Rosa went to jail because someone didn’t want to sit next to someone different from them. That doesn’t even make sense. If you want further proof of the damage these mindsets cause, you can actually ask Ruby Bridges, the little girl on the far left in the picture, if the death threats shouted at her when she was five, which led to fear...
